The flag of the Kingdom of Libya (1951-1969) was adopted when Libya gained independence in 1951 from Italy.
During the 2011 Libyan Revolution, the flag of the Kingdom of Libya came back into use by the Libyan Republic. On March 21, 2011, the flag was flown by the Permanent Mission of Libya to the United Nations and displayed on their official website.
The flag might become again the national flag of Libya if the forces opposing Muammar Gadhafi are successful.
